Include your macOS version, Git Fold version, what you tried, and the error text. Please never send SSH private keys, access tokens, or complete Git configuration files.

Get started

  1. On first launch, select your home folder when macOS asks. Git Fold needs this permission to read and update your Git and SSH settings.
  2. Review any existing Git author and SSH key path that Git Fold finds. Confirm which GitHub username they belong to, or skip import and add an account in Settings.
  3. Check the selected account’s commit name and email. If the menu reports a mismatch, use Fix Git author before committing.
  4. For a project that needs another account, choose Assign Account to Folder…, select its folder, and assign a GitHub username and SSH key.

Common questions

Why does my commit use a different email?

A repository’s own Git settings can override a global or folder rule. In that repository, run git config --show-origin user.email and git config --show-origin user.name to see the source.

Why did push fail?

Check that the repository remote points to GitHub, the folder rule uses SSH, the selected private key exists, and its public key is registered with the matching GitHub account. Git Fold cannot confirm that GitHub has accepted the key.

Why is my gh account different?

The Mac App Store edition configures Git commit identity and SSH routing. It does not change GitHub CLI authentication or provide per-account HTTPS credentials.

How do I remove local account information?

Remove folder rules that use the account, then choose Remove… beside it in Settings. Git Fold removes its cached avatar. Removing the last account clears Git Fold’s managed default Git identity and SSH key setting without deleting the private key file.
